Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are something of an anomaly in the crazy world of Hollywood. Not only have they been in a committed relationship with one another for nearly 40 years, they also firmly believe that actors should stay away from preaching about politics.

“Happy 4th birthday our precious Rani Rose? You are the real queen!” Hawn captioned a photo of herself with Russell and their granddaughter. “I’ll take Lady in waiting everyday as long as the prince is always beside me! WE LOVE YOU!!! ????????.”
Rani is the daughter of Kate Hudson, who is an award-winning actress in her own right. While Hudson is biologically the daughter of Hawn and her ex-husband Bill Hudson, she was raised by Russell from the time she was a small child, and she views him as her father. Hudson shares Rani with her with musician Danny Fujikawa, whom she has been married to for five years.

Hawn And Hudson Open Up About Intergenerational Bond
In a 2020 interview with People Magazine, Hawn and Hudson opened up about how Rani coming into the world bonded them even more.
“When your daughter has a daughter, it’s a big deal,” Hawn asserted. “I mean, it really is.”
Hudson then added, “My mom gave me the floor to be able to feel confident enough to go out and feel like my life could be my own,” disclosing, “Mom was my greatest cheerleader. And it just made me think about Rani…going, ‘I hope I give her that kind of confidence,’ you know?”
The actress also said that she is inspired by Hawn’s decades-long relationship with Russell.
“To live up to that is really the goal,” Hudson admitted. “Just the fact that they’ve been able to maintain a unit for all of us, in times of turmoil, they really are the center of all of our lives.”

Their devotion to each other and their family isn’t the only factor differentiating Hawn and Russell from many of their fellow, outspokenly liberal Hollywood stars. While celebrities seem to like to lecture the public about politics more than ever these days, both Hawn and Russell have openly condemned such practices.
‘I Stay In My Lane’
“I stay in my lane,” Hawn said in an interview with Megyn Kelly earlier this year.
“Hollywood, and a lot of Hollywood has a lot of mission,” she explained. “You want to put your name onto something that you believe in. But it doesn’t make a difference — and that’s the reality, is that if you are someone in the industry, and you want to go into politics, or you want to talk about these things.”
“The reality is, if we want to do anything, we want to do it for all people, not just for a group or whatever,” Hawn continued. “What makes polarity even more, is creating teams on either side of the aisle. And I don’t think that’s what we do.”
“They’re like, ‘You can save your lectures for somebody else,’” Kelly asserted in agreement, to which Hawn responded, “I think we entertain.”

Russell Feels The Same Way
Russell made similar comments in a 2020 interview with The New York Times, wherein the actor explained why he prefers to keep his political views to himself.
“I’ve always been someone who felt we are court jesters. That’s what we do,” the actor declared at the time. “As far as I’m concerned, you should step away from saying anything so that you can still be seen by the audience in any character.”
“There’s no reason entertainers can’t learn just as much as anybody else about a subject, whatever it is,” he added, before admitting, “But I think that what’s sad about it is that they lose their status as a court jester. And I’m a court jester. That’s what I was born to do.”

Hawn and Russell seem to be very happy in their lives, and we wouldn’t be surprised if thm keeping their politics to themselves plays a huge role in that. We would like to wish Rani a very happy birthday, and hopefully she knows just how lucky she is to have grandparents like Hawn and Russell!
