Pat Sajak is hosting his final episode of Wheel of Fortune tonight after leading the game show for 43 years. Ahead of his retirement, Sajak’s beloved co-host Vanna White could not help but become emotional as she said goodbye to him.

White Becomes Emotional Saying Goodbye To Sajak

“I can’t believe that tomorrow is our last show together,” White, 67, told Sajak on Thursday. “I don’t know how to put into words what these past 40 years have meant to me but I’m going to try.”

“8000 episodes went by like that,” she continued. “When I first started, I was so green. You made me so comfortable and so confident, Pat. You made me who I am, you really did.”

White went on to say that she and Sajak, 77, have “grown up” together over the years. She added that while they had a blast together on camera, it’s the fun times they had behind the scenes that she will always treasure.

“As much fun as we’ve had on camera, those memories, milestones and life events we shared with our families outside the studio are my favorite,” she said.

It was when White began to talk about the role that Sajak has played in her and her family’s lives that she began to break down in tears.

“We’ve watched our children grow up together, we’ve traveled all over the world, we’ve eaten hundreds of meals together, we’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve celebrated,” she stated through tears. “What an incredible and unforgettable journey we’ve had.”

‘I Love You, Pat’

White concluded by saying that she “enjoyed every minute” knowing Sajak.

“As this chapter of our lives is coming to an end, I know you’ll still be close by,” she said at the end of the video. “You’re like a brother to me and I consider you a true lifelong friend who I will always adore. I love you, Pat.”

After the video ended, Sajak and White were seen hugging on the Wheel of Fortune stage.

“Oh my,” Sajak exclaimed with emotion.

Sajak And White’s History

Sajak hosted his first episode of Wheel of Fortune on December 28, 1981. White joined him on December 13, 1982, and the pair have hosted the game show together ever since. Together, they are two the longest-serving hosts of any television program in the game show category, according to CBS News.

Sajak announced last year that he would be retiring after the current 41st season. He will be replaced next season by the American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. In September of last year, White extended her own contract through the 2025-2026 season.

“When I heard that Pat was retiring, I thought maybe I should retire too,” White recently told TV Insider. “But I’m not ready!”

White went on to say that she isn’t sure when she’ll step away from Wheel of Fortune.

“We’ll see toward the end of those two years how I feel,” she said. “I thank God after all these years that I still love my job.”

While it’s sad to see Sajak go, he also deserves to have an amazing retirement. We wish him many years of health and happiness to come!
