A royal expert who’s been covering the Windsors since the 1980s thinks Prince William might be getting a bit worried about how his brother and his wife are handling themselves.

In a new British documentary, Ingrid Seward said, “I would think it might bother William a little bit, because he might see the way that Harry and Meghan do things as being detrimental to the business of the monarchy as a whole.”

Royal Family Protocol

Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle consistently garner flak for flouting traditions and royal protocol.

Over the summer, Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, expanded their privacy demands. They refused to announce who the godparents are of their son Archie Harrison.

Seward says that could be a point of contention for William. He bears the full weight of following in his grandmother’s footsteps.

“It wasn’t done in a very royal way, or the way we’d come to expect. But then Harry’s excuse was, ‘Well, I’m a private person,’” Seward explained. “But you cannot be royal and be sixth in line to the throne and be a private person.”

Climate Change Hypocrisy?

Harry and Meghan, who are vocal climate change activists, also faced backlash over the summer for flying privately on multiple vacations.

Given the significant carbon footprint of private jets and when climate change activists fly privately, the hypocrisy is palpable.

For Meghan’s birthday, they left for a week’s vacation to Ibiza, Spain and flew privately both ways. Just two days later, on Aug. 14, the couple traveled on a jet that only seats nine passengers to visit Elton John’s home in Nice, France.

Princess Diana and Elton John

However, when the media took exception to Prince Harry and Meghan doing what they tell others not to, Elton John jumped to their defense.

“I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” he tweeted Monday. “Prince Harry’s Mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.”

Elton John famously re-wrote his hit “Candle in the Wind” for Princess Diana’s funeral.

Elton John Defends Meghan and Harry

“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home,” he went on. “To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.”

“To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™. I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.”

One does have to wonder if Elton John hears himself. Checkbook activism while refusing to change wasteful habits of luxury — and telling everyone else they should — isn’t really a defense. Hopefully, Prince William has enough influence with his brother to get him to change his ways.
