Michael J. Fox Marty McFly Lil Nas Christmas trailer cameo Back To The Future Parkinson's

Fans were ecstatic to see Michael J. Fox reemerge this week in a new Christmas trailer where he reprises his iconic character Marty McFly from the Back To The Future movie series. The surprise cameo comes days after Fox spoke out to reveal that he only recently went through his “darkest moment” since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease back in 1991.

Michael J. Fox Appears In Lil Nas X’s ‘Holiday’ Trailer

Fox transports us back in time with a Marty McFly throwback in the trailer for the rapper Lil Nas’ upcoming Christmas song “Holiday.”

The 59-year-old actor makes an appearance in the Christmas trailer at around the :35 second mark.

When the camera pans to Fox as McFly, he warns the rapper, “Whatever you do Nas, don’t go to 2020.” Now that’s some solid advice.

Fox can be seen dressed in similar Wild West gear to the clothing his character wore in the third installment of the Back To The Future movies.

Michael J. Fox Recalls His ‘Darkest Moment’ Since His Parkinson’s Diagnosis

While fans will be excited to see Fox back in action in this clip, they will be saddened to learn that the past few years have not been easy for him.

Two years ago, the former “Family Ties” star had to undergo a highly risky spine surgery to remove a noncancerous tumor.

“I was heading for paralysis if I didn’t get it operated on,” Fox, 59, explained to People Magazine.

The recovery from this surgery was long, as he had to learn to walk again. Then, things got even worse for Fox just a few months later.

He fell and shattered his arm while home alone in the New York City home he shares with his family.

“That was definitely my darkest moment,” he recalled. “I just snapped. I was leaning against the wall in my kitchen, waiting for the ambulance to come, and I felt like, ‘This is as low as it gets for me.’ It was when I questioned everything. Like, ‘I can’t put a shiny face on this. There’s no bright side to this, no upside. This is just all regret and pain.’”

Fox has dealt with Parkinson’s for decades with his trademark positive attitude, but in that moment, he struggled to put a positive spin on the situation.

“Parkinson’s, my back, my arm … it still didn’t add up to moving the needle on the misery index compared to what some people go through,” Fox said. “I thought, ‘How can I tell these people, “Chin up. Look at the bright side. Things are going to be great”?'”

1970s Game Shows Revive His Spirit

Thankfully, Fox found a way to rediscover his positive nature during his long road to recovery.

The actor spent months watching game shows from the 1970s while recovering at home.

“Optimism is really rooted in gratitude,” he explained. “Optimism is sustainable when you keep coming back to gratitude, and what follows from that is acceptance. Accepting that this thing has happened, and you accept it for what it is. It doesn’t mean that you can’t endeavor to change.

“It doesn’t mean you have to accept it as a punishment or a penance, but just put it in its proper place,” Fox added “Then see how much the rest of your life you have to thrive in, and then you can move on.”

Michael J. Fox is doing much better now, saying that he is enjoying life at home with his wife Tracey Pollan and their four adult children.

“I’m actually having a really good time,” he said. “People don’t believe me, but I love life. I love being with my family. I love being with Tracy. I love that I don’t do a lot of useless stuff that I used to do, because I don’t have the energy or the time. I’m grateful that I went through a crucible there in my late 50s. I figured some of this crap out finally, and it didn’t haunt me into my 70s and 80s.”
