Goldie Hawn And Kurt Russell Divulge The Secret To Their Nearly 40-Year-Long Relationship

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell just divulged the secret to their happy relationship of nearly four decades. Their lasting bond makes them a rarity in Hollywood, where most couples are lucky to even make it four weeks!

If you’re like me, when you think of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell you’re immediately transported back to 1987 and their classic comedy Overboard.

Fast forward a few decades and this iconic Hollywood pairing is still going strong.

Hawn, 74, and Russell, 69, have been a couple since 1983.

Though they’ve never actually married, the two are madly in love and have lots of words of wisdom to share about how to make a relationship work.

They told Parade Magazine that the secret behind their long-lasting love is that they prioritized being happy and having a strong family over everything else in life. From there, they said things just fell into place for them.

“It’s not about what you do, it’s how you do it,” Hawn explained. 

Russell said that it’s Hawn’s hilarious sense of humor that he loves the most about her. 

“Goldie can literally physically walk away sometimes and make me laugh,” said Russell. “She’s funny by nature. She just…is.”

As for Hawn, she finds humor in Russell’s smart comments, “because, you know, Kurt’s not goofy.” 

“I can do some pretty goofy dance movements, honey, in the morning sometimes!” Russell objected, bringing up a day in which he asked Alexa to play a song and proceeded to dance around.

“Every once in a while, you are goofy,” Hawn conceded. “I forgot about that Alexa moment.”

Hawn Keeps Them Both Healthy 

Russell also loves that Hawn has made health and fitness a priority for them both for decades.

“I’m quite sure that if it weren’t for Goldie, I’d probably weigh 300 pounds by now,” he said. 

In addition, Hawn and Russell share a passion of helping others and making the world around them a better place. 

“As we get older, there’s something other than just our lives we have to care about,” Hawn explained. That’s why seventeen years ago, she founded the Goldie Hawn Foundation and its MindUP program, a nonprofit that aims to help children regulate their emotions and manage stress.

“I’m so dedicated to doing whatever I can do to make the world better,” she said. “And I think for me, that’s another piece of health: happiness and purpose.”’

Hawn Reveals Why They Never Got Married

As for why they haven’t ever gotten married, Hawn explained her reasoning behind this in a 2016 interview. 

“I would have been long divorced if I got married,” Hawn told Britain’s ITV “Loose Women.” “If you need to be bound to someone, then it’s important to be married. If you are independent, then it’s important to not be married.”

Like millions of other Americans, Hawn and Russell are looking forward to the holiday season, especially after a difficult year dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Giving is going to be even more important than ever,” Hawn said of this Christmas. “I think we need to just have fun, laugh and feel there’s magic in the air.”
