Believe it or not, it’s been twenty years since Taylor Momsen starred as Cindy Lou Who alongside Jim Carrey’s Grinch in the Ron Howard-directed movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Now 27 years-old, Momsen is opening up in a new interview about how this movie changed her life.

Taylor Momsen Recalls Memories From How The Grinch Stole Christmas Set

“I do remember having a lot of fun on that set,” Momsen told Entertainment Tonight.

The child star added that the film’s cast went to what she called the “Who school” to learn how to do the film’s complicated stunts.

Since the actress and musician was only 7 years-old at the time, she could not wear the prosthetics that the rest of the cast had on. So a special line was added into the movie to explain Taylor Momsen’s unique look.

“They wrote a line into the film, ‘She hasn’t even grown into her nose yet,’ because I couldn’t have all the [prosthetics], so they just put a little blush on my nose,” she explained.

Momsen also said that she has nothing but fond memories of working with Jim Carrey, who she said gave an “incomparable” performance as The Grinch.

“I just remember he was so kind, so concerned but so methodical with what he was doing,” she remembered. “Even at that young of an age, I remember watching him and thinking, ‘I’m watching an artist at work.'”

How This Movie Changed Her Life

Momsen went on to say that the movie actually changed her life because her character Cindy Lou Who got to perform the song “Where Are You Christmas?”

The Grinch was the first time I went into a recording studio,” she said. “I’ll never forget walking into this beautiful studio with a massive console in front of me and putting headphones on and singing into a microphone for the first time…”

“It was such an impactful moment in my life,” Momsen added. “It made me go, I want to make music for the rest of my life. I love being in a recording studio.”

Taylor Momsen Still Gets Recognized For How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Despite all that Taylor Momsen has gone on to do, she admitted that she still gets recognized for the Grinch movie at times.

“It’s certainly funny now when people don’t realize I played Cindy Lou Who and they might know me from my music or something and they put two and two together and you get the giant reaction of ‘I can’t believe that’s the same girl from How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ And I get a huge kick out of that,” she said.

“I grew up, but I think deep down I’ve still got a lot of Cindy Lou Who in me.”
