UFC Rankings Update: Conor McGregor Continues to Drop, “Jacare” Souza Replaces “Shogun” Rua

The UFC has posted the promotion’s latest rankings, following UFC Sao Paulo, and Conor McGregor has slipped further down the promotion’s pound-for-pound ranks.

Although neither McGregor or anyone else currently ranked in the top 15 of the P4P ranks competed last weekend, the Irish star dropped two spots. As a result, the former featherweight and lightweight champ is ranked #14 in the P4p bracket. 

Former middleweight champ, Robert Whittaker, moved up one spot and is now #13.

“Jacare” Souza moves into the top 15 at 205

Although “Jacare” Souza came up short in his light-heavyweight debut at UFC Sao Paulo, as he lost via split decision to contender, Jan Blachowicz, the former middleweight has cracked the top 15. Souza is now ranked #15 in the 205 ranks.

“Shogun” Rua, meanwhile, has dropped out of the top 15. The legendary fighter faced Paul Craig at the recent event, and the bout was declared a split draw.

Also a point of interest, former champ Daniel Cormier dropped down from the #1 contender spot in the light-heavyweight ranks to #2. Thiago Santos, who lost via split decision to champion Jon Jones this past summer, moved up one position to #1.

Here is the explanation as to how the UFC’s ranks are determined:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC.

A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
