The “Forever Young” singer Rod Stewart is preparing to turn 80 years-old in January. As he heads towards this landmark birthday, Stewart is getting reflective as he confronts his own mortality.

‘My Days Are Numbered’

Stewart told The Sun that he plans to put the “final 15 years” of his life to good use by partying it up into his 90s.

“I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear,” he admitted. “We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.

“I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can,” he added. He went on to say that he can perform for “probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”

Stewart Still Parties Hard

Stewart is kicking off his final shows in his Las Vegas residency after performing for 13 years at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace. While he still “goes mad” on the booze with his backup singers and dancers after each show, he confesses that he can’t quite party as hard as he used to in his younger days.

“I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that,” he said. “Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.”

“The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my rider?” he continued. “You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.”

When asked what his preferred alcoholic beverage is, Stewart replied that his favorite is a martini.

“Before the show I have a quick Bacardi which I am trying to convince myself is good for my voice,” he said. “After a show we all get stuck into the Martinis. Most bands all go home and go to bed but we don’t. We have a big old party.”

Stewart’s Health

Though he still parties hard, Stewart is also focused on his health. Indeed, he’s survived both prostate and thyroid cancer.

“I am more aware of my health now than before,” he said. “You should be when you start getting on a bit. It’s very important.”

“I am a bit of a hypochondriac. I think men in particular should take advantage of all the wonderful medical science out there,” he added. “When I come back to the UK I am going to have my blood cleaned as I’ve been told it is a real boost to the system.”

Even at nearly 80, Stewart still works out quite a bit.

“I keep myself very, very fit,” he explained. “I have had the same trainer for 31 years. We work out three or four times a week.”

‘I Have Had A Good Time…

As he braces for his 80th birthday, Stewart appears to be more content than ever.

“I have had a good time and a good life and I’ve enjoyed myself, so I wouldn’t ask for anything more,” he concluded.
