Country music star Morgan Wallen just had his felony trial date pushed back four months from Thursday (August 15) to December 12. The trial is over charges related to Wallen allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of Eric Church’s bar in Nashville, Tennessee back in April.

The incident became a big to-do, and now Wallen is facing serious legal problems.

Wallen’s Felony Trial Pushed Back

Wallen, 31, was arrested on April 7 for this incident. Two Metro Nashville Police Department officers were standing on the street below Chief’s on Broadway when a chair came hurdling down out of nowhere. The chair ultimately landed right by the two cops.

Witnesses told WKRN that they saw Wallen “pick up the chair, throw it over him, laughing afterward.”

At least one source claimed that the problem stems from alcohol use.

“Morgan is generally a nice, fun person to hang out with, but when he gets going he doesn’t know when to stop,” a source later told People Magazine. “Morgan and alcohol is a problem and it’s been a problem that keeps coming back around.”

Morgan Wallen Facing Six Years In Prison

Wallen was arrested and charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. If convicted on all charges, he is facing up to six years in prison.

“I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks,” Wallen said two weeks after his arrest. “I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s.”

“I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility,” he continued. “I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change.”

‘Very Complicated Case’

In an initial court hearing on May 3, Wallen’s attorney Worrick Robinson appeared on his behalf.

“This is obviously a very complicated case and it’s not going to resolve itself without subpoenas and witnesses,” Robinson told the media after the hearing. “The state will subpoena witnesses and we’ll work on the case on our end… several things can happen in the case. We might have a hearing, we might settle the case or the case might continue. Those are the options.”

“He is cooperating fully with authorities,” Robinson also said.

Wallen is currently on a tour that is scheduled to end on October 19 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He’s preparing to head to Sweden later this month to kick off the European leg of this tour.

Wallen’s Previous Run-Ins With The Law

And actually, this isn’t the first time Wallen has been in trouble with the law. Back in 2020, he was arrested on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges. He also spent thirty days in treatment the next year after he was caught on camera saying the n-word following a drunken night out with friends.

“I’ve not ever been the one to follow the rules as much as some people,” Wallen said that year.

Wallen went on to explain that he traces his rebelliousness back to being the son of a preacher growing up in Sneedville, Tennessee, where “everybody pretty much knows what you do. They expect you to behave a certain way, and if you don’t, they scold you. I absolutely hated that growing up, and I think a lot of my tendencies come from that.”

We continue to be thankful that nobody was hurt in Wallen’s chair-throwing incident. Here’s hoping that Wallen will use this as inspiration to turn his life around!
