The A-list Hollywood star Glen Powell has dropped a bomb about the upcoming Top Gun 3 that has fans feeling very excited.

Powell Talks Top Gun 3

Earlier this week, Powell was interviewed on Happy Sad Confused with his Twisters costar Daisy Edgar-Jones. There, they were asked which would be released first between a Normal People continuation starring Edgar-Jones or a Top Gun 3 with Powell.

“I mean, I have a date,” Powell replied, indicating that he knows when filming will begin on Top Gun 3.

In other words, we’re definitely getting more Top Gun, people!

Previous Top Gun 3 Reports

It was first reported back in January that a Top Gun 3 is in the works. It was reported at the time that Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote Top Gun: Maverick, had been tapped to pen the third movie. Paramount was also optimistic that Maverick director Joseph Kosinski would also sign on for the third film.

Later that month, Powell gave his thoughts about Top Gun 3 rumors to Variety.

“People looked at me like I knew what was going on,” Powell said. “There is going to be some fun stuff being announced soon…but it was confidential to me.”

“I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time,” he continued. “There is stuff happening and it sounds very exciting. I don’t know when I’ll be going back…I’m sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future.”

The original Top Gun came out in 1986. The film’s sequel Top Gun: Maverick was released in 2022, and it became the blockbuster hit of that summer. The movie earned $1.48 billion at the global box office, making it the 12th highest-grossing film of all time. On top of that, it was nominated for six Oscars, taking home the award for Best Sound.

It’s definitely not easy to nail a sequel, but they sure did.

Powell’s Approach To Choosing Roles

Powell has previously opened up about his process for choosing his roles.

“It’s just instinct,” he said, adding that he prefers to keep in mind that he too “would be an audience member in the theatre to watch the film.”

“I always keep that in mind when I’m reading something,” Powell added. “There are a lot of great scripts out there. But one thing I always try to do is occupy the character. I always try to keep in mind: is this something that I, as a viewer, would want to see? Is this something I would turn up for?”

Powell said his approach to acting has been impacted by advice that he got from the Top Gun: Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

“He said, ‘Before you say yes to a movie, just close your eyes and watch the film [play] in your head. [Now,] are you the best person for that role? And is it something different?'” Powell recounted. “So that’s my process now.”

Top Gun has become one of the most iconic movie series of all time. We can’t wait to see Top Gun 3 when it finally comes out!
