It’s been nearly forty years since St. Elmo’s Fire came out back in 1985, but the movie is still beloved by fans to this day. Especially fans of the Brat Pack!

In a new interview, the Hollywood star Demi Moore has revealed that the cast is very interested in doing a reboot of the film.

Moore Discusses St. Elmo’s Fire Sequel

“We are all in conversation,” Moore, 61, revealed while appearing on the TODAY show earlier this week.

“The studio has really been driving this. As far as I know, everyone Is in and gung-ho,” she added. “And that would be so fun.”

Host Savannah Guthrie couldn’t hide her excitement. She begged Moore to “please do it.”

Certainly, Gen Xers and older Millennials around the country are saying the same thing!

Moore Doubles Down

Moore later doubled down on this in another interview.

“The update is definitely, conversations are happening,” Moore told Variety. “[The] studio has been really behind [and] driving this. As far as I know, everyone seems to be up for it, which I think would be amazing.”

St. Elmo’s Fire is a coming of age story that follows a group of Georgetown University graduates and friends as they embark on a series of misadventures in the real world.

The film is a shining example of the “Brat Pack” – a group of young actors who frequently collaborated, especially with legendary director John Hughes.

The 1985 movie starred Moore alongside Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Mare Winningham, Andie McDowall, and Jenny Wright. The film was co-written and directed by Joel Schumacher, who tragically died back in 2020 at the age of 80.

St. Elmo’s Fire Sequel ‘Would Be A Real Joy’

Though St. Elmo’s Fire was panned by critics, it was a huge hit at the box office. Indeed, the movie made $37.8 million on a $10 million budget. In the decades since its release, St. Elmo’s Fire has become a generational classic for people who grew up in the 1980s.

Moore opened up about this even further with Entertainment Weekly.

“I have had a couple of sit-down meetings, and I think it would be great if we can come up with a story that I think holds up,” she explained. “Because you never want to diminish. I think, yes. For the most part, my understanding is that so far everyone is pretty much open and on board. We’ll see, but, yes!”

Lowe And McCarthy Discuss Sequel

Lowe, 60, opened up about a potential sequel back in July.

“We’ve met with the studio and I have been talking about doing it for about four months,” Lowe told Entertainment Tonight at the time.

“But it’s very, very, very, very, very early stages,” he cautioned. “So we will see.”

McCarthy, 61, told People Magazine back in June that a potential St. Elmo’s Fire sequel gets brought up “all the time.”

“Actually I was talking to Rob Lowe about that very topic about two months ago, and we’re like, sure, bring it. I think 30, 20 even 10 years ago, people would probably [have] said no,” he said. “But now I think again, as you get older, you kind of look back on these things with a certain affection and there’s nothing to prove to anyone,” he said. “It was so nice when we met everybody, it’s like, who cares [about the Brat Pack label/past]? It was 35 years ago, does it still matter?”

“But it’s interesting to look at and kind of go, you know what? It was kind of awesome, wasn’t it? And I was like, yeah, it was. And that’s a nice feeling to have that,” he continued. “So if somebody wanted do a St. Elmo’s Fire sequel, we’re here. Talk to us. Because yeah, what happened to Mike? Where’d he go?”

A St. Elmo’s Fire sequel would certainly be interesting to see. Only time will tell if it actually comes to fruition!
