The former Roseanne star John Goodman suffered some bumps and bruises while working on the set of a new Tom Cruise movie.
Given Cruise’s insistence that he do his own stunts, you’d think it was he who got injured, but not this time!
Goodman’s Hip Injury
Details are a little scant, but it sounds like Goodman isn’t looking at anything serious like a hip replacement.
“John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson told People Magazine. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover.”
“The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery,” the spokesperson added.
Deadline reports that “Goodman slipped during the past week while blocking a scene at the UK’s Pinewood Studios and was taken to hospital for treatment. We understand it led to filming being stopped for two days.”
While minor, at 72, even a minor slip can lead to serious problems, especially if bones are broken.
The movie, which doesn’t currently have a known title, is being directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. His previous renowned films include 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Biutiful (2010), Birdman (2014), The Revenant (2015) and Bardo (2022). Iñárritu has won four Oscars, and his movies typically get lots of awards love, so it wouldn’t be surprised if this upcoming one does as well.
The new movie stars Goodman and Cruise along with Jesse Plemons and Riz Ahmed. This project is being filmed at Pinewood Studios in England, and it’s expected to be released on October 2, 2026.
The film’s official IMDB synopsis states that it follows “the most powerful man in the world” after he “causes a disaster and embarks on a mission to prove that he is the savior of humanity.”
Goodman has other projects that are currently in preproduction. These movies include Chili Finger and Smurfs.

Tough Times For Goodman
This comes at a tough time for Goodman, as his Pacific Palisades home burned to the ground in the California wildfires back in January. Goodman, whose main residence is in New Orleans, has yet to comment publicly on this.
In June of last year, Goodman admitted that he’d only just “managed” to come out of another difficult time in his life. Indeed, he’d overworked himself to the point where he was “practically having a nervous breakdown.”
“It was bad with everything,” he confessed while appearing on the “SmartLess” podcast. “It just purged out of me when I went to the therapist one day. And then for the rest of the day it was horrible. Nothing worked.”
“You’ve got to be relaxed when you do stuff. And open and listen,” Goodman continued. “You have to be ready to listen to yourself. You have to be relaxed. For me, that was the key. I already know this stuff, and that’s one thing I didn’t trust myself about.”
“I don’t know,” he added. “I’ve been doing the same two roles for the last four or five years, and I haven’t really had much of a chance to do everything else.”

Goodman’s Sobriety
Goodman went on to credit his sobriety for allowing him to be open about these struggles.
“It’s kind of to help myself and maybe to help somebody else. I’ve been clean about 16 years now,” he said. “The last 16 years I’ve had to grow a lot into my normal age, and it’s been a lot, but I’m glad I did it.”
Goodman appears to have gone through quite a lot in the past year. Here’s hoping that his hip injury isn’t too serious, and that he’s able to get back to set as quickly as possible!
