Sunday marked the ten year anniversary of the suicide of the beloved actor Robin Williams. Now, Robin’s daughter is speaking out to debunk a viral rumor about her father.
Robin’s Daughter Debunks Viral Image
Zelda Williams took to social media to fire back at an image that claimed to be one of the last taken of her father before he took his own life at age 63. The image shows Robin with an adorable capuchin monkey sitting on his shoulder.
“Robin Williams: One of the last photos of a gem of a man, with his pet monkey, taken a few days before he committed suicide by hanging at the age of 63,” the caption of the photo read.
Zelda, however, was not having any of it.
“It’s been brought to my attention some probably AI written BS like this is going viral,” Zelda wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
“Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should, and if you’re ever tempted to, support your local exotic animal rescues instead,” she continued. “That is his Night at the Museum costar, who now lives at one.”
“And since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are),” Zelda later added.
Robin’s Older Son Honors Him
Zelda is the oldest of the two children that Robin had with his second wife, Marsha Garces. Her younger brother is named Cody Williams. Robin also had an older son named Zak, who he shared with his first wife Valerie Velardi.
Zak took to social media to pay tribute to his dad on the tenth anniversary of his death.
“Dad, it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years,” he wrote. “Today, I’m thinking about how much you loved all of us—your family, your friends, everyone you met. You inspire me every day to do my part in making our family’s world a little more connected and loving. Love you forever.”

Zelda’s Memories Of Robin
Zelda opened up to People Magazine about how her father made holidays special before his death.
“Being together was the important thing, because otherwise, especially with people scattered to the wind with work, it became even more special to do that,” Zelda recalled.
“Dad’s job made it pretty hard to keep anything like a yearly tradition really, aside from Thanksgiving or days when sets would shut down,” she added. “So we didn’t really have much in the way of that, but cooking together was a big part of our family. We would eat together every Tuesday, however many family members were in town.”
Robin was a true legend, and there will never be another one like him. Please join us in saying a prayer for Zelda and the rest of his family as they mourn him on the tenth anniversary of his passing.
