Rumors have been swirling as of late that Prince Harry is aching to return to his native United Kingdom. This comes four years after he and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals and moved across the world to Southern California.
Now, however, it appears that Harry’s potential return to the U.K. may be in jeopardy. This is because Meghan reportedly has no intention of ever going back to England again.
Meghan Never Wants To Return To The U.K.
Royal author Omid Scobie, who has long been a close friend of Meghan’s, revealed in his book Endgame that the former Suits actress “never wants to step foot in England again.” The reason behind this is that she “never really felt at home” during her time there.
Which is understandable – not many Americans are going to feel at home after they’re suddenly thrown into the world of the royals.
“I’m ready to move on past it,” Meghan has allegedly said, according to Scobie. “Whether we get an apology or accountability, who knows: who really cares at this point?”
Meghan hasn’t been back to the U.K. since she attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral with Harry in September of 2022. Scobie alleges that moving forward, Meghan “never wants to be involved in the British monarchy again.”
Harry Allegedly ‘Desperately’ Misses England
In contrast, Harry has returned to the U.K. solo multiple times since the Queen’s funeral. Earlier this year, he flew to England to visit his father King Charles. This came after Charles’ cancer diagnosis was announced to the world. Reports have since circulated alleging that Harry “desperately” misses life in his home country.
“He’s an angry boy,” one friend of Harrys’ alleged back in August. “Things haven’t turned out how he wanted.”
“I think he misses being over here [in Britain] desperately and wants to be admired more,” added the friend, who claims to regularly correspond with Harry via WhatsApp. “Anyone who knows him feels he’d rather be top of the pops here with everyone loving him, as they do with William and Kate.”
Another friend who has known Harry for decades alleged that the royal longs for the life he had in England. There, Harry spent his younger days enjoying weekends in the English countryside and nights out at pubs with friends.
“He has ended up isolated from his family and most of his old mates, in an environment where your friendships are not like the ones you forged as a young man,” this source told Daily Mail. “He used to love a night out in the pub and hanging out in the country with friends.”

California Is Meghan’s Home Turf
While Southern California is a foreign world for Harry, it’s anything but that for Meghan. It should be noted that Meghan was born and raised there. She then spent her 20s and early 30s desperately trying to make it as an actress in Hollywood.
Though Meghan was eventually able to score a role on the cable network drama Suits, it barely made her a household name. Indeed, it certainly didn’t give her the A-list level fame that she clearly desperately craved.
Perhaps Harry should have thought twice before abandoning both his home nation and his family to move across the world with someone like Meghan. Many would argue that she’s shown little respect for the royal family from the very beginning. In fact, some have claimed that a royal exodus was Meghan’s plan all along.
“I have spoken to staff who worked at the Palace when the Sussexes were working royals, and some of them have told me that they formed the impression from the start that Meghan may not have wanted to make a success of her life in Britain,” royal expert Richard Eden told The Mail last month.
“She appeared to be actively seeking reasons to be unhappy or resentful, and encouraged Harry’s long-standing bitterness at being the ‘spare’ and not the heir, the courtiers claim,” he continued.
Only time will tell if Harry ever gets away from Meghan and moves back to England. Given everything that he has put the royal family and the British people through over the past few years, however, Harry shouldn’t be surprised if his potential homecoming isn’t met with a welcome reception!
