The artist Post Malone has been – successfully! – transitioning to country music as of late. As such, he’s taken to spending more time in Nashville. But it’s not just because of the music.

In a new interview, Malone is revealing why he actually prefers being in Tennessee compared to California.

Malone Prefers Nashville To L.A.

“It’s really nice meeting people in Nashville that made me feel so welcome and new friends and kind of building new stuff, and for once, I’m not sad anymore,” Malone, 29, told Apple Music. “I’m happy, very happy.”

“L.A. is L.A. and working here, I’ve always felt very distracted, and it’s nice to go to Nashville and really just meet people who are the best at what they do and who are super kind and super talented,” he added.

Malone went on to say that when he’s in L.A., “it’s always like someone wants something from you. And that’s something I didn’t see often in Nashville.”

That sounds like as good a reason as any!

L.A. Is ‘Not Conducive’ For Malone

This is in contrast to life in L.A., where “there’s always something to do, which isn’t bad, [but] it’s just not conducive to a work environment for me at least.”

Malone is the father of a 2 year-old daughter, and he much prefers raising her in Nashville over L.A. He explained that before becoming a dad, he was able “to go out and then come back and then work.” Now, however, he “wants to go jam and just make music and then without being like, oh, come out.”

Last Friday, Malone released his first country music album “F-1 Trillion.” The album features Malone performing duets with country music legends like Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw, and even Hank Williams Jr. Malone also performs with newer acts like Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen.

One of the most popular songs on the album is “Back To Texas.” In it, Malone says that he “ain’t found nowhere like Dallas, yeah, and I doubt I ever will.”

Malone Also Loves Texas

Though Malone’s heart is currently in Tennessee, his love for Texas goes back many years.

“When you mix the hip-hop side of Texas with the country and add a guitar, some grills and maybe a rhinestone suit … you’ll get where I’m coming from,” he told The Dallas Morning News in 2016.

“My dad was a big influence with rock, rap and country, so it shows for sure,” he added.

This was a reference to his father Rich Post, a one-time DJ and former assistant director of food and beverage for the Dallas Cowboys.

“The people, the sound, the whole vibe [of Dallas-Fort Worth] has definitely turned me into the artist I am, musically,” Malone continued.

It’s so fun to see Malone return to his country roots. In the end, we can definitely see why he prefers Nashville to Los Angeles!
