Judge Mathis star Greg Mathis is now dealing with his own legal case after his wife Linda filed for divorce after 39 years of marriage.
Mathis’ Wife Files For Divorce
Mathis married Linda Reese in January of 1985. He met her just after the death of his mother. They went on to have four children together: Jade, Camara, Greg Jr and Amir. All of the children are over the age of 18, meaning that Mathis and Reese won’t need to worry about custody or child support.
“Marrying Linda put me on the path in the right direction,” Mathis wrote on Facebook back in 2021. “I hope my journey is [an] inspiration to others.”
As for the reason behind their split, Reese cited irreconcilable differences – today’s catch-all reason. She listed their official date of separation as July 17.
Reese is asking for spousal support, though. She’s already moved to block the court’s ability to award Greg spousal support. It’s unclear at this time if they had a prenuptial agreement.

Mathis’ TV Shows
Mathis and Reese had already been married for fourteen years when he scored his reality TV court show. The program ran an impressive 24 seasons from 1999 until 2023. By the time it ended, Judge Mathis was the longest-running active court show.
Mathis would go on to star in the popular E! series Mathis Family Matters.
Back in 2022, Mathis opened up about why he was able to connect well with the litigants featured on his program.
“I can identify better than most judges with the plight of the litigants because I’ve lived the life of almost every litigant that comes before me,” he told Variety at the time.
“My sole objective in life is to be able to inspire the people I left behind to overcome their obstacles,” he added.
Mathis went on to explain that he decided to do the show in the first place because he “felt on a national level, if street youth and single mothers would see me every day [I could try to] empower them and inspire them. I felt I could affect more people around the country than I could a local city.”
Mathis’ Final Posts About Reese
Mathis last posted about Reese on Facebook in January of this year. At the time, he posted a photo of the two of them kissing during a vacation in Mexico.
“Linda and I had a great time celebrating the holidays in Cabo. A great way to end 2023,” he wrote.
Last year, Mathis and Reese traveled around Europe with Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Samuel L. Jackson, and their wives aboard Johnson’s 296-foot Phoenix 2 superyacht. They stopped in Mediterranean countries like Greece and France.
“We are a whole family, a wholesome family,” Mathis told Baller Alert back in March. “We all have our flaws, but we don’t fight. Never have… If we have to fight, the answer is no [to returning].”
Reese chimed in to say, “Black families are great families and no, they’re not filled with inter fighting… We want to have a strong influence on our community and show that.”
