Jennifer Lopez shocked her fans over the summer when she filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on the second anniversary of their wedding celebration. Now, twenty weeks later, their divorce has been finalized.
Lopez And Affleck Finalize Divorce
Court documents obtained by People Magazine have confirmed that the brief marriage between Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, is over for good.
After rekindling their romance in 2021, Lopez and Affleck eloped in Las Vegas in July of 2022. They then celebrated their union with their family and friends during a ceremony in Georgia on August 20, 2022.
Lopez would then go on to file for divorce from Affleck on August 20, 2024, listing April 26 as their date of separation. She also cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their breakup.
Lopez requested no spousal support for either party and that their attorney’s fees be split. She then stated that the “exact nature” of their community, quasi-community assets, and separate property and obligations are “unknown” and “will be determined.”

Lopez ‘Didn’t Want To Divorce’
A source spoke out days after Lopez filed to say that the star seemed “relieved.”
“She didn’t want a divorce,” the insider said. “She wanted to figure things out. They love each other. Jennifer is not the type to just give up.”
Another source close to Affleck said at the time that he was “doing well and is very focused” despite the split.
“He thrives when he has work projects,” this insider alleged. “He’s been great when it comes to the kids too. He’s doing exactly what he wants. He seems very happy.”

Lopez And Affleck’s History
Lopez and Affleck met in December of 2001 on the set of their movie Gigli. They became engaged the next year, only to shock fans by calling off their planned wedding in 2003 just days before it was set to take place.
Lopez and Affleck each went on to marry and divorce different people. Affleck married the former Alias star Jennifer Garner in 2005 and had three children with her before they divorced in 2018. Prior to Lopez, Affleck’s union with Garner was his only marriage.
Meanwhile, Lopez married the singer Marc Anthony, staying with him from 2004 until they divorced in 2014. He’s the father of her twins.
Affleck was actually Lopez’s fourth husband. Her first marriage was to the actor Ojani Noa, who she was married to from 1997 until 1998. She then married her backup dancer Cris Judd in 2002, and they divorced the next year.

Lopez And Affleck Remain Friends
Despite their divorce, Lopez and Affleck seem to still be friends. On September 16, one month after Lopez filed, they were seen having lunch together with their children at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge. On Sunday, just before their divorce was finalized, Affleck and Lopez were also seen reuniting at his home in Los Angeles.
Last month, Lopez recapped her year in a video posted to Instagram. While one would think that 2024 would be a year that Lopez would want to forget, given her divorce, she appears to actually be content.
“I am very proud of how I handle all the things. All the things,” she could be heard saying in the video. “In my low moments, I’ve learned to just feel the feelings and then let them go.”
