Last month, we reported that Christina Sandera, the longtime partner of the 94 year-old Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, had died suddenly at the age of 61. Now, sad new details have emerged about her death.

Sandera’s Cause Of Death Is Revealed

USA Today has confirmed from Sandera’s death certificate that she died of cardiac arrhythmia and coronary artery disease. She passed away at a hospital in Monterey County, California on July 18, just two days after her 61st birthday.

On Sandera’s death certificate, the primary cause of death is listed as a cardiac arrhythmia, or a heartbeat with abnormal rate or rhythm. Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease is listed as another leading cause on the document.

The U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute states that people can develop atherosclerosis when plaque builds up in the arteries, causing them to narrow. Plaque is reportedly formed by “cholesterol, fat, blood cells and other substances in your blood.”

“Disease linked to atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in the United States,” the NHLB states.

The Mayo Clinic has warned that coronary artery disease can sometimes lead to sudden cardiac arrest, or the loss of heart activity due to the irregular rhythm of the heart.

Eastwood Mourns Sandera

Eastwood announced Sandera’s death hours after her passing.

“Christina was a lovely, caring woman, and I will miss her very much,” he said at the time.

Days later, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation issued a statement paying tribute to Sandera. She had served on the board of the foundation for many years.

“Christina’s passing was sudden and unexpected, and while details are still unclear, we find some solace knowing she was doing what she loved—riding her horses—surrounded by her beloved animals, and close to home with her partner of 10 years, Clint Eastwood,” the foundation said. “Christina was a dedicated philanthropist and animal activist.”

“Despite being connected to high-profile celebrity life, Christina often eschewed the spotlight,” the statement later added. “She was far more comfortable in her jeans, pigtails, and baseball hat, shoveling and tending to her beloved horses and animals. She was a “roll up your sleeves” kind of person, always hands-on and deeply involved in her passions.”

The foundation concluded by saying that, “Christina’s heart was huge, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”

Eastwood And Sandera’s History

Eastwood and Sandera met back in 2014, when she was working as a hostess at his Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant in Northern California. She moved into his home in Carmel-by-the-Sea City months later, and they had been together ever since.

Sandera never worked in the entertainment industry and she kept her relationship with Eastwood private. Even so, Sandera frequently accompanied Eastwood on the red carpet. She first walked the red carpet with him at the Oscars back in 2015. That night, his hit movie American Sniper was up for six awards.

Sandera would go on to also join Eastwood on the red carpet for his movies Sully in 2016, The Mule, in 2018, The 15:17 to Paris in 2018 and Richard Jewell in 2019.

Eastwood is the father of eight children by six different women. He and Sandera never had children together. Soon after he started dating Sandera, a source spoke out to say that all of the kids were fans of her.

“Clint’s kids have all met Christina and like [her],” the insider told US Weekly. The “kids all say she is ‘normal.’”

This is clearly a very difficult time for all of Sandera’s loved ones, including Eastwood. Please join us in saying a prayer for them!
