Tom Selleck Wraps Filming Emotional Final Episode Of 'Blue Bloods'

The legendary Hollywood star Tom Selleck has officially wrapped filming the final episode of his hit show Blue Bloods after 14 seasons.

The show has been a fan-favorite, with Selleck’s popularity enjoying a rebirth of his popularity.

Blue Bloods Wraps Filming

Daily Mail confirmed that the police procedural drama about a New York Police Commissioner and his family filmed its last episode last week. The show had been airing on CBS since 2010.

The final season of Blue Bloods is being split into two parts. The first ten episodes of the season began airing back in February. The last eight episodes are set to air in the Fall.

Blue Bloods starred Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and Bridget Moynahan. Wahlberg took to Instagram last month to post a video of his final day of filming.

“Not sure I have the words to describe how I feel about today, or the last 14 years on this special Blue Bloods journey, but I do know how incredibly thankful I am for every moment of it,” he wrote in the caption.

Wahlberg Films Final Dinner Scene

Last Friday, Wahlberg took to Instagram once again to post an emotional video of himself reflecting after filming his last iconic dinner scene for the show. Any Blue Bloods fan will know that these family dinner scenes were a staple of the beloved show.

“I’ve taken this walk thousands of times in 14 years and it was a teary final walk from the Blue Bloods dinner scene, last week,” he wrote in the caption. “More so than I could have ever imagined.”

“Of course some sad tears — but mostly tears of immense humility,” he continued. “It’s been a wonderful adventure. One that I know so many of us, and so many of you, wish could continue. My desire to carry on, however, is only surpassed by the amount of humility I feel for having been part of this wonderful journey at all. I’m so thankful.”

Selleck Fought To Save Blue Bloods

Selleck, who played New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods, had been fighting to save the show.

“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck told CBS News back in May. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”

Fans fought to save Blue Bloods by launching a #SaveBlueBloods campaign that has garnered over 30,000 signatures. Sadly, these efforts fell on deaf ears at CBS.

“All shows have to come to an end,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach told Deadline in May.

“It’s important to us to refresh the schedule,” she added. “We are going to end the show come December.”

Selleck Loved Playing A Police Commissioner

While Selleck has stayed silent since wrapping filming on Blue Bloods, he’s made it clear how much this show means to him in the past. Playing the role of a police commissioner has also given Selleck a newfound respect for police everywhere.

“I learned a lot more about the pressure of command,” he said of playing Commissioner Reagan, according to Yahoo News. “Someone who holds the lives of 35,000 people who work for him in their hand.”

After it was initially announced that Blue Bloods was ending, Selleck said that it was “an honor and a privilege to work on a show that now only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family.”

While there have been whispers that a Blue Bloods spinoff series could be in the works, nothing has been confirmed at this time. We can only hope that this does happen, because we’re just not ready to say goodbye to the Reagan clan on Blue Bloods!
