The legendary singer Willie Nelson, 91, is giving fans an update on his health after canceling his scheduled concert appearances this past weekend.
Nelson Cancels Concerts
Nelson had been set to kick off the Outlaw Music Festival Tour last Friday night. Just hours before he was set to take the stage, however, he announced that he could not perform on “doctor’s orders.”
“We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days,” read a statement that was posted to Nelson’s social media.
The statement went on to say that Nelson “is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week.”
Nelson’s son Lukas and the Family Band took the stage in his place. They performed “a special set to include Willie’s classics and other songs.” The other acts, which included Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Kraus, and Celisse, performed as planned.
Update About Willie Nelson’s Health
Nelson’s rep has since spoken out to give fans an update on his health.
“Willie will be fine,” the rep said. “I live in Los Angeles and will fly next week to see the performances on the east coast. I can’t wait.”
While no specific return date was given, Nelson is next scheduled to perform on Wednesday, June 26 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Find out more about this in the video below.
Nelson appeared to be excited about the 2024 Outlaw Music Festival when he announced it back in February.
“This year’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour promises to be the biggest and best yet with this lineup of legendary artists,” he said at the time. “I am thrilled to get back on the road again with my family and friends playing the music we love for the fans we love.”

Nelson Has No Plans To Retire
Indeed, Nelson is now in his 90s. However, he has made it clear that he has no intention of ever giving up touring.
“Working is really good for me, no matter what kind of show it is,” Nelson told AARP just after he turned 90 in April of last year.
“The fact that I’ll be there for two days with a lot of my good friends coming out…saying hello and singing with me makes it a lot of fun,” he added. “I’m looking forward to it.”
When asked if he’s ever considered retiring from performing, Nelson replied, “Jokingly, I retire after every tour.”
“But I’m always ready to go back again. I like the bus,” he continued. He added that he has “everything I need on the bus. I never have to go into a hotel room anywhere. It’s not that bad.”

Nelson’s History
Born in Texas on April 29, 1933, Nelson got his first guitar when he was only 6 years old. He started writing his own poetry and music shortly thereafter. Following a stint in the Air Force, Nelson began pursuing music full-time in the 1950s. The rest, as they say, is history, as Nelson has enjoyed a hugely successful career ever since.
Nelson has scored over twenty #1 country hits and won 11 CMAs, 12 GRAMMYs, and 6 ACMs. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1993. Nelson later won the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize in 2015.
We can only hope that Nelson’s health issue isn’t anything too serious, and that he’s able to get back to performing later this week!
