Pat Sajak and Vanna White hosted over 8,000 episodes of Wheel of Fortune together over the course of 42 years before he retired last week. During that time, Sajak and White surprisingly only had one argument. However, this argument was over something so ridiculous that it will only endear them to you even more!
Sajak And White’s Only Argument
In a newly surfaced 2019 interview, White revealed that the only argument that she and Sajak ever got in was over a hot dog.
Yes, you read that correctly!
““Believe it or not, Pat Sajak and I have only had one argument in 36 years and that was over putting ketchup on a hot dog,” White told Fox News.
White went on to explain that while she puts both ketchup and mustard on her hot dogs, Sajak opts to only put the latter.
“I agree it is [weird],” she added.

Sajak And White’s Bond
It’s nothing short of incredible that over the course of 42 years, this was the one disagreement that Sajak and White ever had. One would think that the pair would get on each other’s nerves at some point after spending so much time together, but that never happened!
“He is so funny. He really is,” White told People Magazine of Sajak in 2022. “We see each other every couple of weeks for a couple of days. It’s perfect. Then we don’t see each other and then, we come back to work. And he is always making me laugh.”
White went on to make it clear that the bond she shares with Sajak has always been platonic in nature.
“I think when [series creator] Merv Griffin chose both of us, 40 and 41 years ago, he saw something between us — a brother/sister-type relationship. I think that is kind of what it is,” she explained. “He saw that we would be able to get along, I think. And we do. We are like a brother and sister team.”
White Sees Sajak Like A ‘Brother’
In her emotional goodbye message to Sajak, White described him as her “brother.”
“8000 episodes went by like that,” White said in her own emotional goodbye message to Sajak. “When I first started, I was so green. You made me so comfortable and so confident, Pat. You made me who I am, you really did.”
“As this chapter of our lives is coming to an end, I know you’ll still be close by,” she later added. “You’re like a brother to me and I consider you a true lifelong friend who I will always adore. I love you, Pat.”

Sajak Praises White
As he signed off on his final episode of Wheel of Fortune last Friday, Sajak ended by praising White.
“Vanna is as sweet and unassuming as she seems,” he said. “We’ve seen a lot of changes in each other’s lives over the years, but we’ve always been there for each other.”
“While I’ll very much miss working with her, I take solace in the fact that we live about 5 miles apart, so we’ll see plenty of each other,” he continued. “But I will miss our nightly closes and her laughter and her good nature. She is a very special woman.”

Sajak may be retiring, but White isn’t going anywhere! She’ll continue hosting Wheel of Fortune next season with Sajak’s replacement Ryan Seacrest.
The friendship that Sajak and White have shared for decades has truly been a joy to watch. While we’ll miss seeing them together on TV every night, we hope their friendship continues behind the scenes for many years to come!
