We previously reported that Prince William and his oldest two children Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended Taylor Swift’s concert in London on Friday night.

Now, the true reason behind the visit has been revealed, and it’s sure to warm your heart!

Here’s Why Royals Went To Taylor Swift Concert

William celebrated his 42nd birthday on Friday night by attending Swift’s concert at Wembley Stadium with George, 10, and Charlotte, 9. Absent was his youngest son Prince Louis, 6, and his wife Kate, 42, who is sadly battling cancer.

It turns out that it was actually Charlotte who was the impetus behind this fun concert outing!

“Princess Charlotte is the huge Taylor Swift fan in the family,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “She has wanted to go to the concert for months, but with her mum being treated for cancer, this was a really special day to be able to celebrate her Papa’s birthday like this.”

“Charlotte absolutely loved [the concert],” the insider continued. “They are really wonderful children. William and Kate have done a fantastic job raising all three of them. They understand and appreciate how lucky they are meeting someone like Taylor Swift.”

During the concert, William was seen dancing like nobody was watching as Swift sang her hit song “Shake It Off.” Another source close to William said that he wouldn’t mind that his “dad dancing” went viral, as he “is focused on his wife and children right now. He really just wanted it to be a special night for Prince George and Princess Charlotte.”

After the concert, William and his children got to meet Swift and her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce backstage. A source made a point of saying that George and Charlotte “understand and appreciate how lucky they are meeting someone like Taylor Swift.”

Kate’s Cancer Battle

Kate shocked the world back in March when she announced that she is battling cancer. Though she has not revealed the specific type of cancer that she has, she has confirmed that she’s currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

One week before the Swift concert, Kate made her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis when she attended Trooping the Colour.

“I’m looking forward to attending the king’s birthday parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” she wrote on Instagram before this event.

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she added. “Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”

Kate’s Cancer ‘Treatment Is Ongoing’

Kate went on to say that while she is “making good progress,” she still has “good days and bad days.”

“On those bad days, you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting,” Kate continued. “But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

Kate also said that “treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months.”

This is clearly a very difficult time for Kate and her entire family. We’re glad that William, George, and Charlotte had a nice distraction on Friday in the form of a night of fun with Taylor Swift!
