The Hollywood star Kevin Costner attended the premiere of part one of his four-part western movie series Horizon: An American Saga on Monday. After decades of working in the entertainment industry, Costner is now saying that Horizon is the hardest project that he’s ever been a part of.

Costner Talks Horizon

“You can look at the obvious, of how long it took [to finish],” Costner, 69, told Fox News. “I directed ‘Dances With Wolves’ in 106 days I think, and ‘Horizon’ is arguably as big as that, and we did it in 52 [days]. The only reason that happened was because of the people that were with me. We just never stopped working.”

Costner both stars in and directed Horizon. He also co-wrote the script with John Baird. The movie series has an ensemble cast that includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, Abbey Lee, Jena Malone, Giovanni Ribisi, and more. Actress Isabelle Fuhrman, who also appears in the films, described Costner as being an “incredible leader.”

“I feel incredibly grateful. Kevin is such a visionary,” she said. “I’ve looked up to him for so many years. When he asked me to be part of this, I had a full-body reaction of excitement.”

Fuhrman went on to say that while acting in Horizon was challenging, “Kevin every day made me want to rise to the occasion and be the best version of myself. He’s an incredible leader.”

“He’s just one of those guys, Kevin Costner leads by example,” she explained. She added that Costner is “a really hard-working guy, totally prepared, but he’s also open to there being little moments that he hadn’t thought of and trying to capture those. He’s a top-notch filmmaker.”

Costner Takes ‘Massive Gamble’ With Horizon

Chapter 1 of Horizon is set to hit theaters on Friday. Meanwhile, Chapter 2 is scheduled to be released on August 16. Chapter 3 is currently in production, and Costner recently said that the filming process is “going well.”

“We’ve shot about 13 days of it, and we’re coming back in August to finish it off,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I saw [Chapter 2] yesterday, and I’m really happy to be able to say that it’s just as good as 1, and maybe better.”

Costner has quite a bit riding on the Horizon film series. While the first movie was a hit at the Cannes Film Festival, critics have been divided on it.

“He’d be disappointed if it isn’t well received,” one source told US Weekly. A second source added, “Kevin’s been through this before.”

This insider went on to point out that Costner’s classic movies Field of Dreams and The Bodyguard  were each met with skepticism before they were released.

“He always relishes proving the haters wrong,” the source continued. “It’s a massive gamble, but it’s a story Kevin feels he has to tell.”

Costner Leaves Yellowstone

Last week, Costner made the sad announcement that he will not be returning to his hit series Yellowstone to finish out the second half of its fifth and final season.

“I just wanted to reach out and let you know that, after this long year-and-a-half of working on ‘Horizon’, and doing all the things that that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone – that beloved series that I love, that I know you love – I just realized that I am not going to be able to continue season 5b, or into the future,” Costner said in a video posted to Instagram.
