When Was Sylvester Stallone Born?

Stallone was born on July 6, 1946 in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. His father Frank (1919–2011) was a hairdresser, while his mother Jackie (1921–2020) was an astrologer and wrestling promoter. Stallone also has a younger brother Frank, who is a musician and successful actor in his own right. He’s starred in such movies as Barfly and Hudson Hawk.

Stallone unfortunately had a difficult childhood, as his parents had a hostile relationship that culminated in a bitter divorce. He reportedly spent the first four years of his life in a boarding house because his parents didn’t want him.

“My mother and father, they certainly weren’t parents,” Stallone once said. “They said, ‘Oh I can’t wait to raise a normal happy family,’ when both of them were completely discontent with who they were.”

Stallone moved around quite a bit during his childhood. At different times, he lived in New York City, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. It was at the University of Miami that Stallone fell in love with acting and obtained a BA in Drama.

Sylvester Stallone’s Acting Career

After college, Stallone moved back to New York City to pursue acting. He got various small parts in films in the early 1970s before getting his big break alongside the future Happy Days star Henry Winkler in the 1974 independent film The Lords of Flatbush.

Aside from acting, Stallone also had a passion for writing. The led him to pen a script about a nobody fighter who gets the “million to one opportunity” to challenge for the heavyweight title.

Of course, this script became Rocky. Stallone reportedly refused to sell the script unless he could star in the title role. The film was a massive hit, earning ten Academy Award nominations and winning Best Picture. The rest, as they say, is history, and Stallone has been a mega-star ever since!

Did Sylvester Stallone Win An Oscar?

It may surprise you to learn that Stallone has never won an Oscar. Stallone has been nominated for three Academy Awards. For his work in Rocky, he was nominated for both Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. He lost the former award to Peter Finch, who won posthumously for his work in Network. As for the latter award, Stallone lost that to Network’s writer Paddy Chayefsky.

Decades later, Stallone was nominated again in 2016, when he reprised the role of Rocky Balboa in Creed. This time, Stallone was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Sadly, he ultimately lost this award to Mark Rylance for Bridge Of Spies.

Stallone was nominated for those same three award categories at the Golden Globes. While he lost for Rocky, he was able to take home the Golden Globe Award for Bet Supporting Actor for Creed in 2016.

Did Sylvester Stallone Serve In The Military?

Stallone has never actually served in the military. In 1969, when he was still a student, Stallone was eligible for the draft. However, officials had to remove him from the draft due to partial paralysis in his face.

Many people have often asked what happened to Sylvester Stallone. The actor had gotten this partial facial paralysis due to complications during his birth. While delivering Stallone, the doctor had to use two pairs of forceps. This doctor made a mistake and inadvertently severed a nerve in the process, causing paralysis of the lower left side of his face. This led to Stallone being bullied as a child.

Despite never serving in the military, Stallone has played servicemen brilliantly in movies like Rambo and The Expendables. He’s so convincing that it’s hard to believe that he never served himself!

How Many Times Has Sylvester Stallone Been Married?

Stallone has been married three times. He first married the actress and photographer Sasha Czack in 1974, remaining together until they divorced in 1985. Stallone and Czack had two sons together, welcoming Sage in 1976 and Seargeoh in 1979. Sadly, Sage died of heart disease in 2012. He was only 36 years-old.

Stallone’s second wife was the Danish actress Brigitte Nielsen. They were married from 1985 until they divorced in 1987. They met while working on the movies Cobra and Rocky IV, and became engaged during production of the latter. Stallone and Nielsen never had children together.

Stallone’s third and current wife is the model Jennifer Flavin. They met in 1988 at a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California. From there, they had an on-and-off-again romance over the next few years until they finally married in 1997. Stallone and Flavin are the parents of three daughters. Sophia Stallone was born in 1996, Sistine Stallone was born in 1998, and Scarlett Stallone was born in 2002.

Is Sylvester Stallone Still Married?

Stallone and Flavin are indeed still married. However, that doesn’t mean their marriage has been smooth sailing.

In August of 2022, Flavin filed for divorce after 25 years of marriage.

“While we will no longer be married, I will always cherish the more than 30-year relationship that we shared, and I know we are both committed to our beautiful daughter,” Flavin told People Magazine at the time.

Just one month later, however, Stallone and Flavin reconciled and called off their divorce.

“They decided to meet back up at home, where they talked and were able to work out their differences. They are both extremely happy,” a source told Page Six afterwards.

Stallone and Flavin remain together to this day.

Sylvester Stallone’s Net Worth

After decades of success in Hollywood, Stallone reportedly has a net worth of $400 million. This comes after years of working as a celebrated actor, screenwriter, producer, and director.
