The country music star Jelly Roll completed his first 5K run on Tuesday, just weeks after it was revealed that he had abandoned social media due to negative comments about his weight.

The 39-year-old singer took part in the 2 Bears 5K, an event hosted by comedians Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura.

Entertainment Tonight caught up with Jelly Roll following the event, and you could both see and hear the emotion of the moment in his comments about how far he had come.

“I couldn’t walk a mile when I started trying to do this back in January,” Jelly Roll said. “So the fact that we got 3-point-whatever it was, got it down, I felt really, really good about it.”

Motivated And Motivating

Jelly Roll explained after the 5K race that it wasn’t easy to finish, but it was well worth it.

“I feel great, I’m a little tired,” he admitted. “It was a little bit harder than I thought it was [going to be], but it’s awesome, man.”

The “Son of a Sinner” singer added that it left him motivated, but his performance was also meant to be motivation for us other big fellas out there.

“I think the coolest thing is how many people stopped to tell us that they were motivated by us, other big guys,” he revealed. “It was just really cool to see that.”

That had to be a great feeling. Positive affirmation from others and knowing you’re helping to motivate them toward their own weight loss goals at the same time.

This is especially considering Jelly Roll recently felt compelled to leave social media due to the constant negative remarks about his own weight.

His wife, Bunnie Xo, defended the country star from those nasty comments.

“My husband got off the internet because he is so tired of being bullied about his f—ing weight,” she said. “That makes me want to cry because he is the sweetest angel baby.”

“My husband doesn’t show it to you guys, but I’m going to have a very vulnerable moment here,” she continued. “It hurts him.”

The three-time CMT Music Award-winning entertainer told reporters that he lost a total of “like 50 to 70-something pounds” while training for the 5K.

“I feel incredible,” he said, clearly not worried about the internet critics any longer. “I’m surrounded by friends and family.”

That, and some good ol’ country music, is all you need.
