Yesterday, we reported that Tom Brady had announced that he is retiring from the NFL again one year to the day after he retired for the first time, only to change his mind a few weeks later.

The media personality Megyn Kelly has since responded by saying that she feels that Brady’s decision to un-retire and play one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year was meant to be a “middle finger” to his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, who he went on to divorce in October.

But first, check out Brady’s retirement announcement in the video below:

Kelly Sounds Off

“I mean, honestly, like, Tom Brady seems like a rather sweet guy,” Kelly said as she talked about Brady’s retirement on her show. “I don’t think he’s evil hearted. I actually, you know, he’s amazing as a football player, but the collapse of your marriage over one extra year of football seems like something one should regret.”

Kelly went on to address rumors that Brady’s decision to un-retire is partly what led to Bündchen ending their marriage.

“You know, she gave an interview talking about how ‘it’s my turn. I put my career on hold,'” Kelly said, according to The New York Post. “She was the world’s number one supermodel and that she really wanted him to retire. And she was sick of having to worry about him out there and he wouldn’t do it.”

“This is just a tragedy,” she continued. “If that really was the reason…He lasted one more year…He lost his spouse, but like, where’s the self-sacrifice? Like where is the mature decision to say, ‘I will table my one year to sacrifice for you, my spouse, to sacrifice for the sake of my marriage and for the sake of my children to have their family remain together.’”

‘What A Middle Finger’

When guest commentator Emily Jashinsky threw it out there that Brady might be retiring this time in the hopes of reuniting with Bündchen, Kelly wasn’t having any of it, as she pointed out that their divorce has already been made legal.

“I do have to wonder if this really was the reason…what would it be like to be Gisele today?” she questioned. “You know, Gisele Bündchen is waking up to do her next big photo shoot and sees ‘What? Okay? So you could have saved the marriage a year ago when I begged you to do this and you refused and you decided for 300 plus days, it would be worth it to lose me. Cause all this heartache to our children, blow up our beautiful life for what, for one season?’”

That’s why Kelly believes that Brady playing one more season in the NFL was “a middle finger” to Bündchen.

“I mean, just the insult. And even if that was — if that is what actually happened, what a middle finger, like that isn’t a good marriage,” Kelly concluded. “That is somebody who’s not actually connected and in love and you know, intimately involved in the way you would expect and want your spouse to be.”

Brady Retires – Bündchen Responds

Brady announced his retirement to the world yesterday in an emotional video posted to his social media accounts.

“Good morning guys. I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring, for good,” Brady said in the video. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first.”

“My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors,” he continued. “I could go over forever, there’s too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”

Bündchen responded in the comments section of his Instagram video, writing, “Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life. ??.”

Brady and Bündchen were married for thirteen years, and they share two children together in addition to an older son of his from a previous relationship. Prior to their split, sources close to them had said that Brady’s decision to unretire had caused friction in their marriage.

“There’s been trouble in the marriage over his decision to un-retire. Gisele has always been the one with the kids,” a source told Page Six last year. “They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind.”

In the months since their divorce, rumors have swirled that Bündchen has already moved on and is dating her jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente, so it may be difficult for Brady to get her back, should that be his goal. Only time will tell if Kelly is right in her assessment of this former couple’s situation.
