A quick-thinking nun is being hailed as a hero after she used both her wits and prayers to stop a robbery at the Response to Love Center in Buffalo, New York.
Nun Thwarts Robbery
The New York Post reported that Sister Mary Johnice, 76, had just completed morning prayers last Saturday when she heard a noise and looked out the window, only to see a stepladder that had no business being there. One of the thieves ran away when she opened the door to investigate, but when she looked up, the nun saw that another was on the roof.
“I said, ‘He’s got to come down, but not on this ladder’,” she later recalled to the Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “So, by the grace of God, I grabbed the ladder, threw it down, looked up and the fellow jumped down, stood beside me.”
Unfazed by any potential danger, Sister Mary proceeded to confront the wannabe thief.
“I said, ‘This is God’s property. This is God’s mission. How dare you do this?’” she recounted. “I pointed my finger and I told him, ‘Get out’ and he ran away.”
‘Just An Experience Of God’
Thwarting this robbery led to Sister Mary reflecting on just how important God’s mission really is.
“It’s just an experience of God,” she explained. “It’s an experience where God is so present. He wants that mission to reach out to poor people, to really share that they’re loved, compassion.”
The Response to Love Center is a facility that serves hot meals and guidance to the needy, and it is located in a poor area of Buffalo.
“I have an identity that I share with my people. I’m no better and no different,” Sister Mary said. “I want to be there and the building that we’re in is special. It’s a dining room. It’s a place of safety, people coming together, enjoying a meal, and just experiencing so much joy. Why would someone want to hurt that mission?”

The Response To Love Center has since released security camera images in the hopes of catching the thieves.
“Do you recognize these two?” the center wrote on Facebook alongside the photos. “This Saturday morning these two morons decided to climb up on the building at Response to Love Center to strip our building of our gutters and downspouts to make a few bucks at the scrap yard, thinking our downspouts are made of copper.”

Sister Mary ‘Praying For These Two Thugs’
Despite what they did, Sister Mary is still “praying” for the thieves.
“They could have come here for food or clothing,” she told The Buffalo News. “They could have come for a kind word, some guidance, but they chose a different route. That is not of God, that is evil. I just wish I could meet them.”
“Every day I’ve been praying for these two thugs,” Sister Mary concluded.
God bless this brave nun for stopping these low-life thieves dead in their tracks. We can only pray that the two men are caught as soon as possible, because they do not belong out on the streets.
