There is some talk of MJF turning face, but will AEW actually make it happen? Also, Matt Hardy is teasing the return of his ‘Broken’ gimmick.
Talk Of MJF Turning Face
When putting AEW together, there were known names like Chris Jericho and Cody Rhodes. Also, there was talent only fans who do not watch WWE would know like The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.
Then, there are wrestlers not known to the casual fan. That seems to describe MJF perfectly.
He spent a few years in CZW, but was more known for his time in MLW. In both promotions, he held different titles.
During the first AEW pay per view, MJF took part in a battle royal. He eliminated a good amount of entrants, before being the last person thrown over the top rope.
He was aligned with Cody Rhodes, but quickly turned heel. Since then, MJF is arguably the greatest heel right now in pro wrestling.
Although, fans are noticing how AEW is teasing a face turn. On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez mentioned how those in AEW think a face turn is the right call.
“There are people in AEW that strongly think they should go with him as a babyface,” said Alvarez. “They feel that he could be a massive babyface.”
“They think that is what he should do now. There are people who believe he could be a generational babyface.”
MJF returned to AEW at September’s All Out following his removal from the roster. While we still do not know if it was shoot or work, MJF seemingly left AEW over pay.
He is now back and will challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear.
On Dynamite, MJF took a step closer to turning face after firing The Firm. At the end of the show, The Firm attacked Moxley and MJF; who wanted the champion at 100%.
Matt Hardy’s Broken Gimmick Teased
To stay relevant in pro wrestling, one needs to always tweak their gimmick. Otherwise, fans tire of the same thing each week.
Matt Hardy has been wrestling since he was a child in his family’s backyard. Along with his brother, Jeff Hardy, they became one of the most popular teams ever.
For a few years, Matt would work for Impact Wrestling. He was presented as a top star and underwent several changes.
The biggest and most successful was easily becoming Broken Matt Hardy. On the latest episode of “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” Matt hinted at a return to the gimmick.
“I mean, you always gotta evolve,” said Matt. “You always gotta freshen up.”
“I mean, you just can’t give — you can’t do reruns. Much like how professional wrestling is 52 weeks a year, new, first-content.”
“We don’t do reruns in wrestling, you always have to move the story forward. You always have to evolve and the same thing goes when you revisit a different character.”
This is exciting. The Young Bucks have arrived on the latest episode of #FreeTheDELETE
Matt Hardy’s broken persona was once the most popular thing in all of wrestling. For reasons I’m sure WWE felt legitimate, they never let Hardy do his thing.

Currently, Matt is working a program with The Firm and Stokely Hathaway. Due to a loss, Matt is now forced to be a member.
With Jeff still suspended because of legal issues, it might be the perfect time to bring back the Broken gimmick.
“It could definitely happen, we’ll see,” said Matt. “It’s going to be really interesting to see how this scenario, with myself in The Firm, ends up playing out.”
“Let it play out. Who knows this might lead to me being broken.”
