The pop star Justin Bieber is leaning on his strong Christian faith after revealing a diagnosis that is truly devastating.
Bieber took to social media to tell his fans that he is suffering from partial facial paralysis after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. The Toronto Sun reported that this came after Bieber, 28, canceled three of his shows days before.

Bieber’s Devastating Diagnosis
“Hey everyone. Justin here. I wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on,” he said in the video. “Obviously, as you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis.”
Bieber went on to show that he could not blink out of one of his eyes.
“I can’t smile with this side of my face, this nostril will not move, so there is full paralysis in this side of my face,” he said.
Bieber Addresses Angry Fans
Bieber then addressed fans of his who were upset that he canceled his shows, saying, “I’m just physically, obviously not capable of doing them.” He proceeded to describe his case as being “pretty serious.”
“I wish this wasn’t the case but obviously, my body is telling me I got to slow down and I hope you guys understand and I’ll be using this time to rest and relax and get back to 100% so that I can do what I was born to do,” he said.
Healthing.ca states that this virus is known to “infect the facial nerve near the inner ear.” It is also extremely rare, affecting about 5 in 100,000 people in the United States.
Bieber ended his video by saying that he will be “getting his rest on so I can get my face back to where it’s supposed to be.”

‘I Trust God’
“I trust God. It’s all for a reason,” he concluded. “I’m not sure what that is right now, but in the meantime, I’m going to rest … I have hope.”
Sadly, Bieber later took to his Instagram Stories to say that he was struggling to eat.
“Been getting progressively harder to eat, which has been extremely frustrating, please pray for me,” he lamented.
Charles Nduka, a consultant plastic reconstructive surgeon in the U.K. and the co-founder of health charity Facial Palsy UK, said that with early treatment, about 75% of those suffering from Ramsay Hunt syndrome can make full recoveries. These treatments include steroids and antiviral medication, according to the surgeon.
Bieber Will Likely Be Sidelined For Awhile
Nduka added that Bieber can expect to be sidelined for some time while he battles this virus.
“They will be under financial pressures and all sorts of pressures to get back out there as soon as possible, but doing so will only lead to longer term problems,” he warned.
Bieber has long been open about his strong Christian faith, which he’s said has gotten him through various struggles in the past. We can only hope that he continues to lean on God as he fights to get healthy again because if he does that, we’re sure he’ll end up being just fine.
