Father Stu
Father Stu is a drama that is based on the true story of a boxer that makes the decision to turn his life around and become a priest. It’s the ultimate redemption story. The boxer goes from a life of self-destruction to finding God.
The movie, which is Rosalind Ross’ feature directorial debut, had a major impact on Wahlberg, who plays the role of the boxer-turned-priest. Ross is in a relationship with Gibson, and they have a son together.

“Father Stu’s journey from troublemaker to clergyman was inspiring to many, including me,” Wahlberg told Variety. “Rosey has done an incredible job capturing the essence of who he was and how he affected the people he met. I hope that with this film, we keep his spirit alive and continue his good works.”
Backstory: Mark Wahlberg To Star In Faith-Based Film About A Boxer-Turned-Priest
Wahlberg’s Christian Faith
It should come as no surprise that this project has resonated with Wahlberg since he has long been open about his strong Christian faith.
“Look, I will not hide the fact that I love the Lord and I want to be committed to serving the Lord, but I also don’t jam it down anybody’s throat,” Wahlberg said in a 2020 interview, which you can check out below. “But it’s better to never have known God than to deny God. I mean, that’s not a good look. That’s not a good look.”
Gibson will be playing the father of the priest in Father Stu, while Teresa Ruiz of “Narcos: Mexico” fame plays Wahlberg’s character’s girlfriend.

‘Yellowstone’ Star In Father Stu
The movie also stars Jacki Weaver, who fans of “Yellowstone” will immediately recognize. She plays Caroline Warner on the latest season. Weaver is an accomplished actress from Australia who has been nominated for two Academy Awards, first for her work in the 2010 thriller Animal Kingdom, and then for her performance in the 2012 dark comedy Silver Linings Playbook.
Weaver recently opened up about her character on “Yellowstone,” who quickly has become a formidable opponent for Kelly Reilly’s character of Beth Dutton.
“She’s a city slicker walking through fields of cowpats in designer heels and classy tailored suits,” Weaver told TV Insider. “She looks out of place, but she’s terrifying. She takes no prisoners, treats everyone badly-and is going to add another dimension to the huge cataclysmic drama that is the Duttons.”
Check out a clip of Weaver and Reilly’s characters facing off below.
Father Stu is set to hit theaters on April 15, which is fittingly Good Friday. Given the all-star cast and it’s faith-based nature, this is one movie that we can’t wait to see!
