WWE SummerSlam 2021 out of Las Vegas is in the books and now it is time for the grades from our report card.
WWE SummerSlam 2021 Report Card: Grades Are In From Las Vegas!
SmackDown Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch
WrestleMania 37 was about four months ago and the Bianca Belair vs Sasha Banks rematch was set. Although, the rumors of Banks not being available were true.
I figured we were getting Carmella or Zelina Vega as a replacement, but then Becky Lynch returns. And, what a pop she received.
The match was only a few moves as Lynch won the title. It makes me think Banks is out for awhile and Belair might turn heel, so there is not much to score.
The surprise return and title win from Lynch saved this from scoring a zero. Grade: C-

Alexa Bliss vs. Eva Marie
I might be wrong, but this could have been Eva Marie’s first singles match since returning to WWE. Unfortunately, the match was not great.
We all know Eva and her in-ring skills are not the best. As for Alexa Bliss, it feels like fans turned on her since Bray Wyatt’s release.
As mentioned, not a fun match that served little purpose. If anything, Doudrop seems to be out of Eva’s shadow. Grade: C-

Baron Corbin vs. Big E
Like the card was not big enough, WWE decided to toss in an additional match. Instead, they should have moved one or two matches to the pre-show.
The biggest takeaway from the match seemed to involve the Money in the Bank briefcase. Big E was the rightful holder, but Baron Corbin needed it more after his recent losing skid.
Big E won and he once again possesses the briefcases. So, an impromptu match for a world title is now very much possible. Grade: B-

Drew McIntyre vs. Jinder Mahal
Drew McIntyre should be given credit for carrying WWE during the ThunderDome era. He had an impressive 2020 as champion.
Eventually, you need to step aside and let other people in the title picture. So, that meant another installment of McIntyre and Jinder Mahal.
Thankfully, WWE did not have the match run too long. McIntyre wins and the feud seems to be over. Grade: B-

WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley vs. Goldberg
Like with any Goldberg match, you can usually predict it from start to finish. Typically, Goldberg and his opponent hit like 12 moves combined.
Then, Goldberg usually gets the win. But, lately it has been going the opposite way.
The match was a bit sloppy, although Bobby Lashley made Goldberg look good out there. Referee stopping the match makes me think the feud heads to Saudi Arabia, when fans deserved a winner at SummerSlam. Grade: B-

Universal Championship: Roman Reigns vs. John Cena
These two have met once before, but things have dramatically changed since then. Now, Roman Reigns is a top heel and Cena is more of a Hollywood actor than WWE superstar.
Cena stated he did not expect to win a fight. Basically, he only needed three seconds to claim the title and rid WWE of Reigns.
We saw three AA from Cena and still not enough to beat Reigns. At this point, the returning Brock Lesnar might be the only person who can take the belt. Grade: B

United States Championship: Sheamus vs. Damian Priest
Honestly, I forgot all about the United States Championship match. That is what happens when you have a champion that does defend the belt too frequently.
I understand that Sheamus was hurt, but the title should have been switched to another superstar. Instead, WWE kept the gold around Sheamus.
As for the match, Damian Priest took a nasty bump when he went to the outside. I have to think that early botch did hinder some of Priest’s moves. Grade: B

Raw Tag Team Championship: AJ Styles & Omos vs. Randy Orton & Riddle
For the past month, Randy Orton has been mostly absent from TV. While away, Riddle was sure to keep mentioning his name.
Orton returned and he has stuck about Riddle’s side. We all know it likely ends with Orton turning on Riddle down the road.
WWE was able to get the belt from Omos without him taking the pin. And, the main card opened with new champions. Grade: B

SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs. Rey & Dominik Mysterio
Heading into the tag match, there were already problems in the Mysterio family. On SmackDown, Dominik Mysterio’s inexperience was showcased.
Two talented teams and talk about a family affair. The Usos were just better on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Since Roman Reigns is Universal Champion, I did not think his cousins would drop the titles. A good match by both times. Grade: B+

RAW Women’s Championship: Nikki A.S.H. vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair
In the past three months, all three of these women have held the RAW Women’s Championship. Heading into the bout, Nikki A.S.H. seemed like the underdog.
A fun match and great performance by everyone. They used the triple threat concept to make for some good spots.
We knew Nikki A.S.H. was not going to be the face of the women’s division on RAW. Charlotte Flair left as champion and I feel like fans wanted anyone but her to win. Grade: A-

Edge vs. Seth Rollins
Edge coming out to the old Brood music and fire entrance in Las Vegas was awesome. The two have been known as the ultimate opportunist, so the match was fitting.
As expected, Seth Rollins focused on the neck. A gritty match that saw Edge execute some moves that are risky for someone with a broken neck.
Edge gets a much needed win after two big losses this year. And, he won via submission with a common move in pro wrestling. Grade: A-
