Disgraced “Empire” star Jussie Smollett reemerged this week to shamelessly try and use the racial and political unrest in our country following the death of George Floyd for his own personal gain. Jussie Smollett’s lawyers are attempting to use current anti-police sentiments as part of their defensive strategy in the City of Chicago’s lawsuit against him.

Jussie Smollett Battling Against Lawsuit By City Of Chicago

Smollett is currently embroiled in a legal battle with the city of Chicago. The city is suing him for $130,000. The lawsuit seeks damages to cover resources they say police wasted while investigating Smollett’s report that he was the victim of a hate crime in January of 2019.

At the time, Smollett claimed he was jumped by two men who hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him while also shouting “this is MAGA country”. But police later concluded that the actor had staged the entire incident himself.

Smollett’s legal team is now trying to obtain documents related to the firing of Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson. Johnson was superintendent during the probe into Smollett’s hate crime report.

Now, Smollett insists that Johnson’s firing is relevant to the case. His lawyers are intent on this fact despite city officials having said repeatedly that it had nothing to do with the actor.

Jussie Smollett Cites George Floyd Protests To Help His Case Against Chicago

In legal documents filed on June 6, Smollett hit a new low even for him. His attorneys cited the Floyd protests as an argument for why the actor should be given access to the police documents he wants.

The introduction to this filing reads:

“As we see millions across the country rise up to protest and expose police misconduct, the City, by its refusal to produce the requested documents, is choosing to actively resist a citizen’s lawful efforts to reveal dishonesty, directly relating to the charges against him, throughout the department, including the police superintendent who oversaw and publicly commented on the investigation of Mr. Smollett’s report of a vicious hate crime and assault. Indeed, the city’s opposition to the motion to compel puts the cart before the horse and largely fails to appreciate that this case remains in the discovery phase. Allegations are not proven facts, but the City improperly assumes that it has already proven that Mr. Smollett made false statements to the CPD.”

Mayor Lori Lightfoot fired Superintendent Johnson in December of 2019 after he reportedly lied to her about an incident in which he was discovered “asleep behind the wheel of his car”.

“Eddie Johnson intentionally lied to me several times even when I challenged him about the narrative that he shared with me,” Lightfoot said at the time of his firing. “He maintained that he was telling the truth. I now know definitively that he was not.”

No Shame

Clearly, the termination of Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson had nothing to do with Jussie Smollett whatsoever. Yet this has not stopped his legal team from arguing otherwise. Their defense is all smoke and mirrors.

Smollett’s lawyers claim that “[d]ocuments from Johnson’s termination may lead to evidence of Johnson’s lack of truthfulness during the early 2019 investigation of Mr. Smollett’s report of being assaulted and subsequent decision by the City to pursue a civil claim against Mr. Smollett knowing Mr. Smollett’s innocence.”

Throughout this entire scandal, Smollett has shown that he is someone who has no moral compass. And that he will do absolutely anything to help himself.

Given the fact that he once tried to use the political and racial tensions of the Trump era for his own personal gain, it should come as no surprise that he is now doing the same thing with the violent Floyd protests.

We can only hope that none of this works out for Jussie Smollett. And that this man is eventually brought to justice for the pain that he has caused so many people.
