AJ Styles has been one of the most exciting indie talents to join the WWE in recent years. Since his arrival, he built SmackDown Live into an exciting brand to watch. He recently joined his Club brothers again too, which has delivered some exciting television. Unfortunately, we may not see AJ Styles for much longer.
AJ Styles Has Signed His Last Contract
The retirement plans of AJ Styles are not just a rumor, they are words that came from the wrestler’s mouth. During an interview on Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory, Styles mentioned he wants his career to end at the WWE and that he has no intention of signing another contract.
“I can tell you that the contract that I signed here in the WWE is my last. This is it for me. This is where I’m going to end my career no matter what happens. I’ve got to, you know? I want to be there for my kids.” – AJ Styles for Chasing Glory
Compared to some of the other wrestlers on the roster, Styles is no longer one of the youngest. Therefore, it is no surprise that he is considering retirement. He also has a bunch of kids running around at home, so taking it a little easier is something that most of us would consider after a lengthy wrestling career.
In his statement, AJ Styles mentioned that the last contract he signed in the WWE will be the last, but that does not necessarily rule out a veteran deal in the future. A veteran deal could mean he only appears every now and again, and has the rest of his time free to spend with his family.
Veteran Deals That Have Been Distributed To Other Superstars
AJ Styles is certainly worthy of a veteran contract. He would also not be the first to receive such a deal from the WWE. The following superstars have a confirmed veteran deal, while others have a rumored veteran deal.
The Undertaker
I reported some time ago that The Undertaker had signed a lifetime contract with the WWE. This is the holy grail for as far as veteran contracts go. With it, The Undertaker has a job at the WWE for life.
Brock Lesnar
The fact that Brock Lesnar has been enjoying a veteran contract is no secret. After all, he enjoys minimal appearances and gets paid high amounts of money. A veteran deal most wrestlers would be more than happy to cash in on.
Triple H
If there is anyone who works hard for his money it is Triple H. Not only does he wrestle at the bigger pay-per-views, he also overviews NXT, recruitment, and is involved in countless charities. A veteran deal for sure, but not one that is earned as easily as Brock’s.
John Cena
John Cena undoubtedly paid his dues in the WWE and deserves a veteran deal. While he is mainly focussed on his movie career at the moment, we are lucky to see the veteran in the wrestling ring from time to time.
