The Best WWE Moments of 2018

While it may not have been the best year for main roster WWE, NXT certainly did amazing! So, it is no surprise that many of my top moments actually took place in NXT. That being said, the women of the main roster stood out too, outshining most of their male equivalents. So, without further ado, here are the best moments of 2018.

Ricochet Makes His NXT Debut

Ricochet is in my opinion one of the best acquisitions the WWE ever did. His debut was a long anticipated one and he has not disappointed! Putting on quality matches and pulling off amazing feats. Ricochet left a lasting impression in 2018.

EC3 Makes His NXT Debut

Despite having a failed run in the WWE in the past, EC3 conquered Impact Wrestling and finally returned this year. Making his debut in March 2018, EC3 has created some memorable moments since his debut, one of the most prominent ones being the North American Championship Ladder Match.

Matt Riddle Joins NXT

Another memorable acquisition of NXT, Matt Riddle, could not be missing from this list. As soon as he made his debut, it was clear Matt would be making a lasting impact on the NXT brand. Even though he is “being built” at the moment, I predict a championship match in the nearby future.

The Undisputed Era Reigns Supreme

The Undisputed Era had to be on this list. Still, I was facing a problem, because this faction had so many good moments in 2018, it is extremely difficult to pick just a couple. So, the Undisputed Era winning titles left and right, supplemented by countless five-star matches, should be celebrated on its own.

Undisputed Era has been a blend of charisma, ambition, raw fighting skill, and even crazy! Some factions stay with one general theme, but the Undisputed Era has it all. I’m looking forward to a dominant Undisputed Era in 2019, too.

Aleister Black Versus Johnny Gargano

This match happened recently at NXT TakeOver War Games II, but that does not mean it was any less impressive. I was on the edge of my seat for each minute of this match, so it certainly delivered.

The match between Gargano and Black was innovative as well as brutal, so I am hoping we get more of this in weeks to come. Hopefully, we can get a title rivalry for these two in 2019, too!

I must also mention that these two had one of the best built rivalries of the year. I do not limit this to the NXT roster, I think they had one of the best builds in all of WWE (ignoring Ciampa and Gargano).

Tomasso Ciampa Versus Johnny Gargano (any match in 2018)

Some of the best matches of the year have been put on by Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa. Each match was as brutal as could be, with many fans even scared to look as the wrestling ring and its nearby surroundings got absolutely destroyed!

Ronda Rousey Versus Charlotte

This was the best women’s match of the year for me! Even though it only happened yesterday, I still get shivers just thinking about the match in question. Five stars to say the least!

Not only did Ronda prove once again she can do a lot in the ring and be incredibly versatile, Charlotte stunned everyone by losing the proverbial plot. Enraged, angry, and outright crazy! Charlotte destroyed Rousey.

Becky Turns Heel

One of the most memorable moments of 2018 can be attributed to another female wrestler – Becky Lynch. The crowd had been waiting and wanting a championship reign for Lynch for a considerable time. It eventually came, but not before Becky went full heel.

WWE management was expecting the crowd to boo. Much to their surprise, the crowd lost their mind as Becky put the lass kicking on Charlotte. Now known as “The Man,” Becky will have some interesting rivalries in the coming years.

Asuka Versus Charlotte

The rivalry between Asuka and Charlotte was one of the best of the year. Even though Asuka lost her undefeated streak to Charlotte, it was something absolutely nobody expected to happen so soon.

Asuka has been put in the background for some time, but her popularity has not decreased. Putting on amazing shows and matches with her own unique style, Asuka should play a more dominant role in months to come.

Buddy Murphy Becomes Cruiserweight Champion

After a lengthy Cruiserweight Championship reign for Cedric Alexander, Cedric got dethroned this year. Facing Buddy Murphy on numerous occasions, Murphy would finally become the Cruiserweight Champion in his home country Australia.

War Games 2

War Games is one of those matches you have to have seen to believe. Incredible feats of strength, death-defying stunts, and outstanding storytelling inside the ring; this is what we got from War Games 2 this year.

Some of NXT’s best stars took part in the War Games match this year; this included War Raiders, The Undisputed Era, Pete Dunne, and Ricochet. With such a star-studded match, no wonder this one goes down as one of the best matches of the year.

North American Championship Ladder Match

Adam Cole’s coronation of North American champion was quite the unique one. In one of the most brutal ladder matches in WWE history, Adam Cole took the gold.

Ronda Rousey Makes Her Wrestling Debut at WrestleMania 34

Rousey put on some amazing matches since her debut, but her debut at WrestleMania 34 was quite the special moment. The Universe only saw glimpses of Rousey’s potential until WrestleMania. When she eventually did a full match, it was AMAZING.
