A Washington state daycare is under investigation for allegedly waxing the eyebrows of toddlers in their care.
When you drop a child off for child care, you expect them to be treated well. You certainly don’t expect hair to be pulled off their face, but when two mothers picked up their children from a daycare at Columbia Basin College, that’s what they discovered apparently happened.
Alyssa Salgado’s daughter had a red spot between her eyebrows, and hair was missing. Glenda Maria Cruz’s son had the same issue. Both mothers believe a daycare worker waxed their eyebrows. The mothers point out that not only did they not give permission for this, but this is delicate skin and it must have hurt the children to have their hair ripped off. There was clearly skin irritation because both children had red skin where there had previously been hair.

The State of Washington and the Boys & Girls Club of Benton and Franklin Counties are investigating the mother’s claim that their children had eyebrow waxes at their daycare.
“The Boys and Girls Club takes these allegations seriously and will work to support the investigation process,” the nonprofit said in a statement.
The mothers are high school students. The daycare operates at the college for the Pasco School District for its New Horizons High School students. The daycare provides childcare so the mothers are able to continue their education and graduate. But, they never signed up for their children to have hot wax applied to pull hair out of their faces.

Glenda Cruz’s son also was missing some hair from that area. The young mother was not happy to see this and is concerned that her son was crying for her during the painful hair removal.

Waxing is a procedure not intended for young children. Why would someone feel the need to do it to a child, especially a toddler?
Alyssa Salgado hasn’t returned to school since this happened. “I just want them to figure out who did this to my daughter,” she said. “I don’t feel comfortable leaving my children there.”
