Sir Elton John, 76, has made the devastating announcement that he’s been left with “limited vision” in one eye after battling a “severe infection” over the summer.

John Left With ‘Limited Vision’ In One Eye

John revealed this on Instagram in a lengthy post to his fans.

“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he wrote. He added that he is “healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” John continued.

“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far,” he concluded.

John Retires From Touring

John officially retired from touring last year. He wrapped up his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which was his goodbye to the road, in Stockholm, Sweden. This came after five years and over 300 shows worldwide.

This tour grossed more than $900 million in ticket sales. It was the culmination of “52 years of pure joy playing music.”

John planned to play more concerts in the future. However, he believed that it was time to stop touring for good.

“I want to appreciate my family, my sons, my husband, everything,” said John. “I’ve earned it.”

John shares two sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, with his husband David Furnish.

At the end of his farewell tour, John assured his fans that they will forever remain in his “head, heart and soul.”

John’s Busy Year

Prior to this summer, John had remained as busy as ever. In January, he officially became an EGOT winner. This came after he won his first Emmy for his Disney+ special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.

Then, in March, John performed at his annual Oscars party, known as the “Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party.” However, it was noted at the time that John struggled to walk the red carpet at this event after having undergone knee surgery in January.

Also in March, it was reported that John was in talks to make a musical about his life. At the Oscars party, John’s husband Furnish revealed that they had been discussing this for years.

“A catalogue musical, we are always looking at it,” Furnish, 61, told The Sun. “I haven’t found anything yet that really covers… I think if we wanted to do it, we would want to do it in a way that was really innovative and really exciting and different.”

“We’re open to any great ideas and it’s a wonderful catalogue,” he added. “But at the moment, with the two other musicals, we’re quite busy as it is.”

Getting older is never fun, particularly when it comes to dealing with physical ailments such as these. This has clearly been quite a trying year for John. Please join us in saying a prayer for his vision and his overall health moving forward!
